The Michael G Santangelo Jr Scholarship Fund was formed in 2013 following the untimely death of Michael G. Santangelo, Jr. The Fund provides donations to educational institutions and charitable foundations that administer scholarship programs to enable deserving students to attend a quality private high school that will make a lasting impact on the lives of the scholarship recipients. The recipients are selected by the school or charitable institution. The Fund has provided scholarships to Iona High School, Soundview Preparatory School and Student Sponsor Partners. Student Sponsor Partners selects children from the lowest income areas of New York City and the Fund donates a four-year scholarship to the recipients. One of the students selected attends Cardinal Hayes and the other attends All Hallows School.
The Fund has donated in excess of $150,000 in scholarships to date. In 2017 alone, the Fund, which has one event a year in the month of December, raised in excess of $90,000, a record to date. Donations are received from the general public. The Fund has approximately one million dollars in assets, including two income producing properties, stocks and cash on hand. Every dollar is used for the education of children, and a great amount of due diligence was exercised to select the institutions that the Board believes is most worthy of the scholarships.
