I plan to use this fund, in honor of my deceased child, to help needy children attend private schools through a scholarship. I intend to go directly through the institution, to make recommendations for qualified applicants. I will leave the final decision to the institution.
With respect to the questions on schedule (H), I intend to help children in the eighth grade to being able to attend a private high school in my son’s name. The criteria will focus on academic performance as well as financial need. The Board will submit three individuals to the school of choice, and leave the final decision to the school. Depending on the number of fundraisers, I hope to award two partial scholarships a year. I intend to advance $2,000.00 at a minimum for each accepted child. If the fund is financially able to renew a grant, I will rely on the school’s decision, as long the students maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0, and perform 100 hours of community service teaching or helping the poor. If the criteria are violated, I will designate the ultimate decision to the school. The selection committee will consist of myself, Mark Fang, who is the Commisioner of Human Rights for Westchester County, Joseph Pepe, Georgia Derrico, the President of SonaBank and John Sinis, who was responsible for organizing the first fundraiser. This committee will make recommendation of a number of children to the school, but the school will make the final decision, in order to ensure complete impartiality. No relatives, friends, acquaintances or substantial donors will be eligible.
