The Michael G Santangelo Jr Scholarship Fund was formed in 2013 following the untimely death of Michael G. Santangelo, Jr. The Fund provides donations to educational institutions and charitable foundations that administer scholarship programs to enable deserving students to attend a quality private high school that will make a lasting impact on the lives of the scholarship recipients. The recipients are selected by the school or charitable institution. The Foundation currently awards scholarships to students selected by San Miguel Academy of Newburgh, Ursuline High School, Hill School in Virginia, and Student Partner Sponsors (“SSP”). SSP selects children from the lowest income areas of New York City and the Foundation donates a four-year private high-school scholarship to the recipients. Some of the schools the students are or have attended on a full scholarship are Cardinal Hayes, All Hallows School, The Harvey School, Mount St. Ursula, the Canterbury School, Vermont Academy, Soundview Preparatory School, and Saint Barnabas High School. The Foundation also awarded scholarships to four students who graduated Iona High School.
The Foundation has donated in excess of $660,000.00 in scholarships to date. The Fund presently has in excess of 1.75 million dollars in assets, including an income-producing property, stocks, and cash on hand. Every dollar is used for the education of children, and a great amount of due diligence was exercised to select the institutions that the Board believes are most worthy of the scholarships.
The Foundation has twenty-one graduates since its inception, and presently has eleven students attending private High School on a full-time scholarship!
