After having no alternative but to cancel last year’s event to ensure everyone’s safety due to the COVID pandemic, The Board of Directors of the Michael G. Santangelo Jr. Scholarship Fund is extremely excited to host the event once again this year. The event will be on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, from 6:00 to 9:00 and this year we are delighted to announce that we will be having it at a new venue. We have selected Alex’s Bar & Grille, located at 577 North Broadway, White Plains, New York, 10601 (914) 358-1444. Alex’s Bar & Grille is a premier restaurant and is located right off exit 6 of I-287 West. Additionally, Alex’s owner has agreed to close the restaurant to the general public for the event and there will be two valets available to assist you in parking. We are confident that it will be a great venue and those in attendance will be able to hear from the students and see first-hand how much they have grown since we saw them at the last event in 2019. Additionally, we are also extremely pleased to welcome M&T Bank to the list of our corporate sponsors.
In 2020, for the fifth consecutive year, despite having to cancel the event, the Fund donated an additional $16,400.00 to Student Sponsor Partners (“SSP”) to enable an underprivileged child from the inner city to secure a four-year scholarship to a prestigious private high school. Last year the scholarship was awarded to Ms. Juliana Millan, who is a sophomore, presently attending the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, Bronx, New York. This year the scholarship was awarded to Ms. Angelina Duarte, who is a freshman attending Cathedral High School. This brings the number of students who have received a four-year scholarship from the Foundation in partnership with “SSP” to six. Additionally, the Foundation donated an additional $25,000.00 to San Miguel Academy of Newburgh. We now have eight students from San Miguel Academy who have received a scholarship from the foundation. In all, the foundation has assisted eight students in graduating from a private high school (four from Iona Preparatory Upper School, New Rochelle, New York), and twelve students who are presently attending private high schools. Mr. Barut LaBattista recently became our eighth student who has graduated high school. Barut recently graduated All Hallows High School as a result of your generosity and is now a freshman, attending SUNY Maritime. All of the students hope to see you at the event so that they can personally express their deep gratitude to you. Since its inception in 2013, the Scholarship Fund has donated in excess of $305,000.00 in Michael’s name to assist students with their education. Following this year’s event, the Fund will have exceeded $350,000.00 in scholarships awarded.
