My name is Julian Marin, and I am from Newburgh, NY. I gracefully graduated from San Miguel Academy in June this year. My time at San Miguel Academy was well spent and has been some of the best four years of my life. From the journey of my time here, I have learned new ways to communicate, express myself, learn, and display leadership.
Participating in sports at San Miguel Academy has helped me learn different ways to interact with my peers and work on communication skills. I spent three of my four years here playing soccer, basketball, and rowing. These sports were not easy to master but with hard work and dedication, I began to train and made progress. This journey took a lot of focus, even when my motivation was tested. I started to get the hang of rowing in my sixth-grade year and kept improving more and more through practice and repetition. By my 7th and 8th grade years, I showed tremendous headway and started to exceed personal goals. In doing this, things in my life like time management, focusing better in classes, and my health became priorities. All these details have become a necessity in my lifestyle making a big impact on my mindset. With perseverance, I managed to lose weight which was one of the biggest accomplishments thus far. To this day, I have lost a total of 30+ pounds which allowed me to realize that I can do anything I set my mind to.
This freshman year I am attending The Harvey School in Katonah, NY, a small, private boarding school. I am really excited about going to Harvey because I think that Harvey is going to create more opportunities in my life and begin another chapter. I am also thrilled about the athletic department having a wide array of sports that can open up doors for new opportunities and experiences. In my time at Harvey, I hope to accomplish a lot of things and more as I progress through. I wish to make new friends, continue to be a good leader, open myself up a little
more, and do well academically.
I can’t thank you enough for The Michael G. Santangelo Jr. Fund Scholarship which makes it possible for me to attend The Harvey School. Without this scholarship, I wouldn’t have this opportunity to open up a new chapter in my life and accomplish new goals in my high school years. Thank you once again for creating an avenue for me to see and learn new things.
